Saro-Aurean Crown Dispute

The Saro-Aurean Crown Dispute is a legal dispute between the Aurean Empire and the New Sarovian Empire over Sarovia's sovereignty.

History

The dispute began in early September of 2020, when Constantine Vasa and Richard Vaughn were discussing a possible deal to hand over the titles and positions of the New Sarovian Empire to Kevlar Vaughn. The initial proposal from Constantine Vasa was to surrender numerous titles, positions and the New Sarovian Empire's overall sovereignty, in return for (1), Kevlar Vaughn's erasure of Constantine and his achievements from numerous public records of the Graal Military Community, namely the Wiki, in an attempt to force himself to stay away from the game and not be remembered and (2), continued resistance against a faction of Constantine's disgruntled heirs, now known as Jacobite Sarovia in the current Sarovian Civil War.

The deal was negotiated in Richard's guild house between Constantine, on an alternate account, and Kevlar, where half of Constantine's proposal was agreed to, with Kevlar expressing both his inability and lack of desire to partake in the erasure of any historical records. Regardless of this, Constantine still upheld his offer, petitioning that Kevlar at least "do his best to try the first request" and deal was then agreed upon, albeit Kevlar maintaining his refusal of the first request.

On the 20th of September, Kevlar gathered prominent members GMC, and the transfer was completed in the presence of two Sarovian junior officers, who were created Knights of the Order of the New Sarovian Empire, especially for the occasion. The File:Act of Abdication and Relinquishment.pdf was written by Constantine to officialize the matter and all parties were considered satisfied.

In the event, Constantine provided a quick speech reinforcing the validity of his forfeiture and then proceeded to launch poorly received insults against both Aurea and Peter Rhodes and before promptly going offline. As widely expected, the deal was breached in bad faith soon after, with Constantine citing Kevlar's inaction on his first condition as justification, although the request had been denied by Vaughn and the deal was still agreed to in spite of that.

Aside from the Act of Relinquishment, no other legally binding contract or deal was written and signed, and Constantine's reason for reneging on his declaration as well as what the terms of the backroom dealings that lead to this momentous event were, are now largely a matter of one's word against another's, unsupported by any surviving official evidence.

The Sarovian argument for the dispute is twofold. The primary argument is in direct response to the Aurean argument - statements made by Kevlar immediately after the ceremony in an argument with former Sarovian Martius indicate that Constantine has the power to do whatever he wishes with Sarovian titles, including agreeing that Constantine could at any moment "strip titles from Aurea".

The second Sarovian argument for the dispute is that of a legal argument - that Constantine was neither King or Emperor of the New Sarovian Empire at the time (he had retired in May of the year, but did not even hold the titles in all of 2020) and such a transfer of titles was legally impossible. Likewise, the Sarovian constitution that was written in May of 2020 specifically stated that nobody could hold the Sarovian throne unless certain requirements were met, and Kevlar and his Aurean successors did not legally meet any requirements.
