The Need For Change by Nylius
The Need For Change by Nylius Avidius
It may simply be because I have been here for almost a decade or because I have stopped joining new guilds. Maybe it's because I don't really give a damn anymore about the current state of the community or I have simply exhausted myself after playing Graal for too long. There is one thing I am certain though—it's boring—and I am also certain many feel the same way. It is incredibly boring and there is nothing to do because there is nothing happening. The cunning maneuvering of people out of power and the intrigue within officer ranks are all gone and I do think we are starting to dilute what the community is and what we enjoy to do in the game.
It is not the fault of any particular group of people. It may be but I do not see it that way. It is everyone's fault for letting things go down this path of blandness and boredom. Many people need change. They enjoy it. No, not change themselves or whatever, but change, whatever that change is, people crave for change and if we do not evolve the community to something else beyond our current, desolate, stagnant state, we are going to end up like GraalOnline Zone. Alquraan (2017) said, "I believe that people should experience new activities through their lives. This is because that will help them to relax and break the routine. Hence, they will not suffer from frustration." Frustration of the routine eventually leads to boredom, and it has been two years and we are still here, stagnating and too proud to let go and try something new. People have literally started to play other Graal servers and other games in general, offline from Classic for days straight.
The need for change is not a need simply because you're bad and needs to change. No, that's not it. The need is a want, something that has to be satisfied. As leaders and members of the community, it is our duty to provide militants something else. We can start organizing the community again under a system like that of the Kingdoms. We can try out having our own UN-esque organization. Heck, we can also try going for artificial, consensual battles and start developing a new war system. I just think we need something else to do. The banquets, weekly meetings, and daily 8 PM EST training are not cutting it anymore and we may soon find ourselves in a position with no power to reverse our decline due to our ineptitude and lack of action.
I call upon all the leaders of the community. Start talking with one another and think of ways to make things fun for the community members. If you are too busy with college or life, there is nothing wrong to pass the rod of power to someone else. It doesn't make you any less of a leader and, in fact, it shows how much you value them by accepting the fact that you no longer have time to lead. We are entering a new era in the GMC and the current leaders of the various factions that currently exist are the ones who will pave the road for this new era. This is not just about you and your guild. This is about the community. As much as I want to keep on writing about this, all is up to you to bring forth change. Grow or die. Being stagnant is a lie that keeps you comfortable with not growing, with dying (Stout, 2015).
